Photos - Secrets - Streets
Ashcroft
|
|
Why do these marks appear alongside the gutters
in so many Ashcroft streets?
The mystery has been solved by resident Ron: The grooves are
the result of the evening of the road and gutter levels after
damage to car suspensions.

Balmain
|
|
Where in Sydney do you find street signs telling
you that you must park on the footpath? In Balmain.
Marvel at this regulation in Phillip and Short Streets. (See
below for example.)

Balmain
Balmain
|
|
You won’t find it in street directories.
In fact, you’ll be lucky to find it at all. But this
narrow path stretches for 200 metres into the background to
link Balmain’s Beattie Street with Little Beattie, Theodore,
Little Theodore and Llewellyn Streets. They comprise one magic
kingdom.

Balgowlah
|
|
Why does this New Street East path in Balgowlah
suddenly change its mind? Why does it then give up altogether? |
Birchgrove
There’s not much of it, but Sardinia Lane,
Birchgrove, has many small, attractive old houses with character.
Bronte
|
|
A lean lane in Bronte. It takes the odd commuter
from Dickson Lane to Belgrave Street. |
Croydon
Park
|
|
It’s so tiny that most Croydon Park
people don’t know it exists, but you can “dart
thru” it to avoid the Georges River Road traffic. |
Dangar
Island
|
|
There is only one shop on the Hornsby Municipality’s
suburb Dangar Island, and that’s just a room inside
a small house. Residents take the ferry to Brooklyn to do
their shopping, and since they have no cars, they leave their
wheelbarrows at the wharf at the end of the main "street". |
