Photos - Secrets - Streets(continued)

Randwick

randwick-unique-street-spelling-xst.jpg

Randwick can boast that only one other street in Sydney (Aeolus Avenue, Ryde), has a name beginning with three vowels. But Randwick's street has a record five vowels to only one consonant.

Rhodes

It's difficult to counteract this claim by Lewis Avenue, Rhodes.

Rooty Hill

What's the name of the street you live in?
Yes.
No, the name of your street?
Watt.
I said, the name of your street.
Yes, Watt.
Don't worry. Just give me the name of your suburb.
Rooty Hill.
I think you need to change your medication.

Rozelle

Why have a sign pointing to Elle Street when there's no Elle Street in Rozelle, or in Sydney even? The nearest Elle Street appears to be in a Brisbane suburb, Cashmere, so following the sign will be rather long walking today. There is an Ellen Street in Rozelle though. Oh, I understand now. It's not pointing to Ellen or Elle Street. The name is Toelle Street.

Ryde

What address are you staying at in Ryde?
I don't know the house number.
Well, the name of the street?
Yes.

Telopea

Telopea problem solved: how to get from Robert Street to Robert Street. Actually, the signs are correct, but how can that be?

Tregear

The old road into Tregear Reserve heads off into the distance for half a kilometre, so I know that it must be taking me to something significant.

Tregear

Of course, I could be wrong.

Turrella

The sign reads: "Martin St Turrella. A forgotten street. It existed before the East Hills rail line. Rockdale Municipal Council and local residents remember and preserve it."
