Photos - Sydney West (continued)

Rydalmere

John Street, Rydalmere, offers glimpses of the Parramatta River and splashes of needed colour on the other bank.

Rydalmere

What is the only flag that appears on other nations’ flags? Britain’s Union Jack. It dominates the Australian flag, and this one on Victoria Road dominates Rydalmere and surrounding suburbs.

Shalvey

In Hammerli Way, Shalvey: Is this guy for real? He’s asking if he can ride me in the Spring Derby!

Shalvey

Sports-mad Shalvey sure goes through some shoes. These grace a cleverly-named tiny street - not Margaret Street, Margaret Place or Margaret Circuit, but Margaret Court. Margaret Court was Australia's and the world's number one tennis player.

Shalvey

If you're into power walking, you've got it made for a couple of kilometres on the border between Shalvey and Bidwill.

You can wander for kilometres along Shalvey’s wide, grassy corridors. After meandering down the power line, let the creek navigate you to Chifley College.

Silverwater

Derby Street, Silverwater: I wonder what's at the top? I guess I'll never know.

Silverwater

Silverwater’s Blaxland Common has a steep hill that’s easy to climb, thanks to a spiral footpath. The spiral path is protected by a one-metre thick rock wall. A sample section suggests that it contains upwards of a million rocks.

Silverwater

Released into Newington Road to work on the footpaths of Silverwater in the winter cold? No thanks. I'd rather my cell.

Silverwater

This Silverwater corner store is on the corner (that figures) of Asquith Street and Skarratt Street North. Such small businesses are rarely seen in Sydney suburbs now, but Silverwater has stacks. They're open from 5am and all are closed by 3pm.
